Underground Geologist

Position Summary: 

The Underground Geologist will be responsible for contributing to the company’s exciting growth plans which include an aggressive underground and surface exploration program to expand its resources well into the future, as well as a production ramp up strategy.  Responsible for day-to-day, narrow-vein geology activities, assisting with underground drilling programs, and core logging as well as opportunities to learn surveying, ventilation monitoring, drafting, engineering studies and related functions. Additionally, the role will have a focus on growing inventory through defining and testing robust exploration targets in near-mine environment.  This geologist role will support company policies, business objectives and company culture.

Responsibilities:

  • Active participation in safety meetings, interactions and inspections
  • Daily underground ore control, planning and reporting duties
  • Provide grade control guidance
  • Underground and surface sampling, logging, mapping and collection of geological and geotechnical information from diamond drill and RC holes
  • Provide guidance to underground production and development crews
  • Responsible for analyzing and assimilating geology and assay data using database and modeling software, calculating stope tonnage and grade
  • Provide support to survey and engineering groups
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Geology or related field required
  • Junior to mid-career experience in geology within underground hard rock mining/narrow vein environment strongly preferred
  • Strong ability to participate in and drive safety culture throughout operation required including familiarity with MSHA regulations
  • Understanding of mineralized systems, rock alteration, geologic and structural mapping
  • Solid understanding of mining operations and drill techniques
  • Capable of utilizing latest computer & software technologies such as Microsoft Office products, Vulcan and AutoCAD/3D software
  • Willingness to be involved with all aspects of ore control, production and exploration
  • Ability to communicate well with internal and external stakeholders in both oral and written formats
