Senior Mine Engineer

Our client is an international diversified mining company seeking a Senior Mine Engineer for a role that will be based in Phoenix, Arizona USA. International travel of up to 20% is expected for this position.

Design and develop processes, practices and methodologies in engineering. Lead the execution of the strategy and ensure alignment with the organization’s long-term strategy. Initiate and undertake projects to optimize performance within engineering and to ensure adherence to industry regulations and organizational standards.

Essential Functions
• Develop costs for mine optimization
• Run pit optimization routine
• Smooth optimized pit and add pit access
• Design waste dumps, haul roads, tailings facilities, access roads and plant sites
• Calculate haulage and equipment requirements
• Develop mine plans to support goals
• Assist in the preparation of ore reserve estimates
• Support permitting efforts
• Work with geologists in exploration and assist in the engineering phase of developments and operational activities
• Participate in feasibility studies to define proper mining methods, equipment requirements, mine site facilities, manpower requirements and production requirements
• Recommend courses of action designed to eliminate potential production problems and to improve safety, operational efficiency, control production costs and protect the environment
• Responsible for carrying out engineering tasks, independently or under limited supervision
• Advise on a variety of internal and / or external requests
• Contribute to the development of practices
• Maintain excellent rapport with external stakeholders
• Analyze information and prepare technical documents to support decision making; present recommendations and status updates to key stakeholders
• Communicate information related to engineering and mentor others
• Lead project teams and internal task forces
• Perform other duties as required.

Required Education and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Mine Engineering or related Engineering discipline from an accredited curriculum
• Seven (7) years of related work experience, with basic knowledge of all phases of mining and milling operations
• Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing to a diversely educated audience
• Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety of yourself and others
• Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards
• Excellent client service and relationship building skills
• Strong analytical skills and highly detail-oriented
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills

Preferred Education and Experience
• Experience with metal mining operations
• Use of MineSight software
