Senior Mine Engineer

Our client is a metallurgical Coal producer in Pennsylvania seeking a Senior Mine Engineer.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Reserve development; assist with drilling and evaluating new reserve options and update existing reserve base
  • Production operations; assist with continued development of operations and coal extraction
  • Coal purchasing; assist with recommendations for ongoing coal purchasing to supplement captive mine output
  • Track job-specific environmental issues such as water quality, DEP and OSM inspection reports, follow-up with regulatory or permit deadlines
  • Provide engineering support for special projects.
    • Monitor and track blasting on a job-by-job basis to recommend positive changes in vendor and in-house performance (drilling and blasting)
    • Monitor coal quality and assist with production – sales planning
    • Cleaning plant – become familiar with plant operations, capabilities, and optionality. Provide engineering support for modifications such as the addition of a filter press for handling fine refuse.
    • Road bonding and repairs – track road bonding and bonded road conditions and develop competitive bid packages for repairs
    • Bonding – track job progression and the need for additional bonding or bond reductions
    • Lime addition – track lime addition on a job-by-job basis. Monitor job progression to make sure that lime is available and placed on the job correctly.
    • Water pumping – monitor water pumping (equipment, capacity, and discharge water quality). Investigate options for heavy pumping operations (i.e. electric vs diesel)
    • Third party audits – provide support for third party audits (bank financing, PA sales and use tax audits, etc.)
    • ISO qualification – provide support to maintain RES Coal’s ISO 9001 qualification

Education, Work Experiences, and Skills:

  • BS degree in Mining Engineering is required with a minimum of 3 years of engineering experience in the coal industry.
  • I.T. or Professional Engineer Certification is preferred
  • Engineering and/or operational experience in surface coal mines is required.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD/SurvCADD for developing mine plans and geologic grids.
  • Possesses excellent communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills and highly detail oriented.
  • Has the ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
