Commercial Finance Manager

The Commercial Finance Manager is responsible for the financial stewardship of operations in Montana, USA in accordance with Company policies, IFRS accounting standards, all applicable federal and state laws, the requirements of the Securities and Exchange Commission, and other regulatory and advisory organizations. Further, this role will provide commercial and financial analysis and advice to key internal stakeholders when assessing business improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

Management Accounts
• Prepare monthly management accounts
• Lead budgeting and forecasting process

Statutory Returns
Prepare / supervise the calculation, lodgement, payment and cost allocation of:
• Income tax
• Production tax

Commercial and Business Analysis

• Provide analysis and advice that supports commercial contract negotiations
• Co-ordinate supplier tender processes to drive cost efficient, risk appropriate outcomes
• Assist with the development of business cases for capital projects and production improvement initiatives
• Use data and business intelligence tools to identify opportunities to improve the business
• Develop tools to track expenses, unit costs, productive unit operating and maintenance costs, and equipment life-cycle costs
• Validate template spreadsheets for episode work (budget, Forecast, AFE, etc.)

Accounting and Reporting
• Audit file preparation and managing audit
• Financial Statement preparation

Maintain / supervise various schedules including; Balance sheet account reconciliations for;
• Accounts Receivable (Miscellaneous / Inter Co.)
• Prepayments (Mineral claims, insurances, Freight in Inventory)
• Inventory costing model
• Fixed Assets register (Depreciation schedule – Accounting & Tax)
• Expense Accruals
• Labor Provisions (PTO Leave, Bonuses)
• Other Provisions (Tax, Royalties)
• Project implementation

• Preparation of short-term and long-term cash flow forecasts
• Manage transaction accounts with banking institution
• Co-ordinate intercompany financing requirements for the business
• Ensure use of restricted accounts is in accordance with banking covenants
• Assist with reporting of banking covenants

• Review weekly payroll and authorize for payment
• Maintain yearly salary review schedule

• Assist with insurance renewal and claims
• Review payables and authorize payment
• Other ad hoc tasks as required

Business Relationships and Personal Development
• Maintain professional qualifications by completing required professional development hours and adhering to professional standards
• Attend industry seminars & conferences where appropriate to build external relationships and maintain professional knowledge
• Keep abreast of changes in accounting standards, legislation and industry best practice by attending training courses and workshops
• Maintain good relationships with service providers, customers and other external stakeholders
• Represent the Company at various meetings, functions and events, upholding the Company’s positive corporate image

• Comply with company Occupational Health & Safety Standard Obligations and all relevant company policies & procedures
• Only carry out activities for which the Commercial Finance Manager has been trained and authorized to do
• Work with others to control all risks so that they are managed to a level that is as low as reasonably practicable

    Skills/Selection Criteria

Relevant Qualifications
• Accounting, finance and/or business degree with excellent academic results
• Certified Public Accountant

Essential Skills, Competencies & Experience
• At least 5 years’ experience in a senior position in an accounting role, including prior experience in a business of comparable complexity
• Experience in assessing, negotiating and implementing commercial contracts
• Previous experience in the mining industry is preferable
• Strong audit or financial reporting background with a solid understanding of accounting standards and concepts
• Exposure to the preparation of tax returns
• Financial & business modelling skills in Excel
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills as you will be in regular liaison with key stakeholders across the business
• ERP and financial systems literacy
• Initiative and self-motivation
